It was built as a mining town around 1879 by the Imperial Coal Company on Robert Wilson’s farm along Montour Run, was known first as Montour City, and had a post office under the name Imperial by 1880. Arrival is typically 15 to 30 minutes.

Coverage Detail
What We Cover in Imperial
Where we travel, what the property mix looks like, and what to tell us when you call.
Imperial is two townships and one place name: North Fayette and Findlay share it, and ZIP 15126 does not distinguish between them. It covers 3.17 square miles, all land, along Montour Run, on ground that was Robert Wilson’s farm before the coal company bought it. U.S. Route 30 runs through the middle. Tell us which township and which side of Route 30.
Typical Properties
Two generations of building. The original village grew up around the mines from about 1879, so older workers’ housing stands near the original settlement; the rest is newer subdivision housing and, since 2020, a large fulfilment centre complex off Pennsylvania Route 576. Doors range from original cylinders in the village to builder hardware and keypads in the subdivisions.
Access & Dispatch Notes
Driveways and lot parking throughout, so access is not the constraint. Expressway access comes from U.S. Route 22 and Interstate 376, with a partially completed Pennsylvania Route 576 serving the community, and the airport is close by, which is why industrial and warehouse work concentrates here. West Allegheny School District serves the area.
